## Grades 4–8: learn to build

## How to pick (in order)

1. **Find the active teams near you** — a well-mentored team in any league beats a prestigious league with no local presence. School engineering teachers and district STEM coordinators know where they are.
2. **Match the rung to the student**, not the resume: a bored 6th grader in FLL should try VEX IQ's faster tournaments; a 10th grader who loves software belongs in FTC or Zero Robotics even if the big FRC team is across town.
3. **Claim a named role by season two.** "Member, robotics team" is a line; "lead programmer, three seasons, taught the 8 rookies" is a story.
