# Fir Acres Writing Workshop

Since 1988, the Fir Acres Writing Workshop has brought creative, talented high school writers from across the country to the Lewis & Clark College campus in Portland, Oregon, for two weeks of immersive writing. The 2026 session, the program's 38th year, ran June 21 to July 4, with daily writing workshops, weekly electives, and Portland field trips woven around plenty of unstructured writing time.

## What You'll Do

- Write every day in small workshops led by published faculty writers, meeting about four and a half hours per day, Monday through Friday
- Develop poetry, fiction, and creative prose, and sample new genres through weekly electives
- Hear from distinguished visiting writers at evening events
- Explore Portland on group field trips and live in Lewis & Clark's residence halls

## Who Should Apply

Rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who take their writing seriously and want a residential college experience built entirely around craft. Applications for 2026 were due March 6, 2026; the next cycle typically opens in winter. One student per summer receives the Blair Bonney Fir Acres Writing Scholarship covering full tuition.
