## About this program

# Invest in Girls

Invest in Girls (IIG) is the Council for Economic Education's financial-education program for high school students who identify as girls. It runs live, instructor-led online courses plus mentorship and career-exposure programming, all offered at no cost, with the goal of building financial competency and increasing the number of women working in finance.

## What You'll Do

- Take "Be the Chief Financial Officer of Your Life" - six workshops on budgeting, credit cards, interest rates, taxes and finance careers
- Continue with "Be the Chief Investment Officer of Your Life" - six workshops on saving versus investing, stocks, bonds and portfolios
- Take "Be the Chief Executive Officer of Your Future" on interviewing, workplace presentation and financial safety nets
- Join the mentorship program for monthly conversations with women working in finance
- Attend Exploring Finance career-networking sessions and, in later years, apply for the IIG summer internship

## Who Should Apply

High school students who identify as girls, anywhere in the US; the program states plainly that "IIG is for high school students only." Courses are taught live online in small groups, so no prior finance coursework is needed - only the willingness to attend scheduled sessions. Students sign up directly through the Invest in Girls student page.

## Outcomes

Participants finish with practical money-management skills, a vocabulary for investing, and direct contact with finance professionals. Roughly three quarters of IIG students come from underrepresented communities, and the program feeds mentorship, internship and career-exploration opportunities that continue after the courses end.
