## About this program

National History Day in Idaho, run by the Idaho State Historical Society, guides students in grades 4–12 through historical research, interpretation and creative expression. Students create a paper, documentary, performance, exhibit or website. The 2026–27 theme is “Innovation in History: Impact, Influence, Change.”

Public, private, charter and homeschool students may take part. Grades 4–5 compete in the Youth division and can advance to state; grades 6–8 form the Junior division and grades 9–12 the Senior division. Junior and Senior category winners can advance to nationals. Independent students need an NHD teacher for registration; a parent or guardian can fill that role.
