Saturday Academy's ASE program (Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering, now Apprenticeships in STEAM Exploration) has placed motivated high school students in professional research and engineering settings since 1990. Interns work full-time for eight weeks each summer on projects designed by their mentors at universities, research institutions, hospitals, agencies, and private companies across Oregon and Southwest Washington - including Portland, Eugene, Corvallis, Vancouver, and Bend.

## Who Should Apply

Rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in Oregon and Southwest Washington (or students who can arrange their own summer housing near a placement). Selection is competitive - roughly 400 applicants pursue about 70 positions, and a student may hold only one ASE internship during high school. Interns receive a cash stipend funded by mentor-organization contributions. The 2026 application closed March 6; applications typically reopen each winter.
