## About this program

# Science Olympiad Division B

Science Olympiad is a long-running national team science competition run by Science Olympiad, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Division B is its middle school level for grades 6-9: schools field teams of up to fifteen students (with a maximum of five 9th graders) who prepare together for a slate of events spanning life science, earth and space science, chemistry, physics, engineering builds, and inquiry skills. The national office has posted the 2027 season Division B event slate, and teams compete through invitational, regional, and state tournaments toward the Science Olympiad National Tournament each May.

## What You'll Do

- Join your school's team and split up a season-long slate of Division B events with partners
- Study for knowledge and lab events, and design, build, and test devices for engineering events
- Compete at invitational, regional, and state tournaments hosted by state chapters in late winter and early spring
- Chase medals, trophies, and a berth at the National Tournament in May

## Who Should Apply

Students in grades 6-9 whose school has a team - or a teacher willing to start one through their state chapter. Schools that lack grades 7-9 may include up to five of last year's 6th-8th grade students, so smaller schools can still compete.

## Outcomes

Team members build deep content knowledge, lab technique, and engineering skills across many disciplines. Team membership costs are paid by the school (typically $125-$300 per team depending on the state), so participation is usually free or low-cost for individual students.
