## About this program

# Whitney Museum Youth Insights

Youth Insights (YI) is the Whitney Museum's suite of free programs for New York City high school students who want to work closely with contemporary artists, museum educators, and each other. Four strands serve different needs: YI Artists (after-school, grades 9-12), YI Art Careers and YI Introductions (summer programs for students entering grades 10-12, with YI Introductions designed for English Language Learners), and YI Leaders, a paid internship in the museum's education department.

## What You'll Do

- Meet contemporary artists and collaborate on original artwork during semester-long after-school sessions
- Explore arts careers and institutions across New York City in the summer Art Careers program
- Discuss American art critically and create original art and writing
- As a YI Leader, help run public programs, lead interactive tours, and work 3-10 hours per week for pay
- Receive free MetroCards and all supplies for summer programs

## Who Should Apply

New York City high school students in grades 9-12. No prior art experience is required for entry-level strands; YI Leaders requires completion of at least one semester of YI Artists or YI Art Careers.

## Outcomes

Participants build a portfolio of original work shown in a culminating exhibition, gain sustained mentorship from working artists, develop museum-career knowledge, and can advance into the paid YI Leaders internship.
