# STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) Summer Intern Program SEES is a nationally competitive, NASA-sponsored summer internship hosted by the University of Texas at Austin's Center for Space Research. Interns work alongside NASA and aerospace subject-matter experts, analyzing and visualizing real mission data in areas such as remote sensing, space geodesy, astronomy, and Earth systems. Dedicated virtual project tracks carry no cost and can be completed entirely from home - the program itself suggests applying for a virtual project if you have a summer job or other commitments. ## What You'll Do - Complete distance-learning modules in Earth science and Python before project work begins - Work remotely through June and early July on a mentored team research project - Present your team's research at the virtual SEES Science Symposium (July 20-21 in 2026) - If selected for the optional on-site track, spend two weeks at UT Austin (July 5-18 in 2026), covered by scholarship or a $2,000 fee that includes housing, meals, tours, and local travel ## Who Should Apply Applicants must be US citizens, current high school sophomores or juniors (rising juniors/seniors), and at least 16 years old by the start of the on-site period - no exceptions. Applications for the 2026 cycle were due February 22, 2026; the cycle typically reopens each winter. ## Outcomes Interns earn a NASA-UT Center for Space Research certificate, present research at a NASA-affiliated symposium, and build mentored experience with real NASA mission data - all achievable fully online through the no-cost virtual tracks.
