Campus Conservation Nationals Program

Organization: National Wildlife Federation

Program Overview

Campus Conservation Nationals is a nationwide campus energy and water reduction competition organized by the National Wildlife Federation.

Campus Conservation Nationals (CCN) is a nationwide campus sustainability competition that encourages students in colleges, universities, and K–12 schools to reduce their energy and water use over a set period. Organized by the National Wildlife Federation (originally in partnership with the Center for Green Schools at USGBC and Lucid), CCN supports campus-wide behavior change through friendly competition, data tracking, and education around conservation. While the program is primarily designed for postsecondary institutions and K–12 schools as a whole, high school students can participate when their school registers as a participating campus or district. Students typically form green teams or eco-clubs that help promote the competition, run awareness campaigns in classrooms or residence halls (where applicable), and track results. Participation helps students build experience in sustainability leadership, data analysis, communications, and community engagement, and can strengthen a school’s environmental profile. Schools usually coordinate the sign-up and logistics at the institutional level; individual students interested in joining should work with a teacher, sustainability coordinator, or administrator to enroll their school in the next competition cycle.
