National Ethics Bowl Champion

Organization: Parr Center for Ethics

Program Overview

Teams analyze and discuss ethical cases. Regional and national competition.

The **National High School Ethics Bowl (NHSEB)**, hosted by the **Parr Center for Ethics**, brings together teams of high school students to analyze and discuss real-world ethical cases. Instead of traditional debate, students collaborate to explore multiple perspectives, clarify key concepts, and offer well-reasoned positions on complex moral questions. Teams advance through regional events, with top performers competing at the national level. This program is a strong fit for students who enjoy **philosophy, social studies, current events, law, or debate**, as well as those who like thoughtful conversation and civil discussion. It particularly suits students who are curious about how ethics connects to everyday life—issues in technology, medicine, public policy, education, and more. Prior experience in ethics or philosophy is not required; students mainly need a willingness to prepare carefully, listen closely, and express their ideas clearly and respectfully. Participating in Ethics Bowl can strengthen **college applications** by demonstrating: - Advanced **critical thinking** and **ethical reasoning** - Experience with **teamwork** and collaborative problem-solving - Skill in **public speaking** and structured discussion - Engagement with **real-world social and moral issues** Colleges often value applicants who can reason carefully, communicate thoughtfully across differences, and engage respectfully with complex problems—all central to the Ethics Bowl experience.
