Program Overview

Congressional hearings simulation. Test constitutional knowledge. National finals in DC.

The **We the People National Competition** is a simulated congressional hearing program that allows high school students to demonstrate their understanding of the **U.S. Constitution**, **Bill of Rights**, and American democratic principles. Working in teams, students research constitutional questions, prepare written statements, and respond to follow-up questions from panels of judges acting as congressional committee members. Top-performing classes in state-level competitions may advance to the **national finals in Washington, D.C.**, where they present before experts in law, history, and civic education. This program is a strong fit for students interested in **government, law, public policy, debate, or history**, as well as those who enjoy collaborative research and public speaking. Participants gain experience in: - **Constitutional analysis** and critical thinking - **Evidence-based argumentation** and extemporaneous speaking - **Teamwork**, time management, and academic writing Participation and especially success at the national level can strengthen **college applications** by demonstrating rigorous academic engagement, commitment to civic learning, and the ability to perform under pressure in an evaluative setting. Students who value civil discourse, wish to deepen their understanding of constitutional issues, and are prepared for a demanding academic experience are encouraged to apply through their school or community program.
