South Carolina Science Olympiad
Organization: South Carolina Science Olympiad
Program Overview
A team-based STEM competition where South Carolina middle and high school students compete in hands-on, inquiry-based science and engineering events.
South Carolina Science Olympiad is the official state-level Science Olympiad program for schools across South Carolina, offering rigorous, team-based competitions in science, technology, engineering, and math. High school teams (Division C) prepare for a wide range of written tests, lab events, and engineering challenges that cover topics like biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and technology. High school students typically compete as part of a school-based team under the guidance of a coach or teacher. The state tournament is held in person at a host campus in South Carolina, and top-performing teams qualify to represent the state at the National Science Olympiad Tournament. Participation helps students deepen their STEM knowledge, develop problem-solving and collaboration skills, and gain experience with real-world scientific practices and engineering design.
