Robofest Robotics Competition
Organization: Lawrence Technological University
Program Overview
Robofest is an autonomous robotics competition for 4th–12th grade students organized by Lawrence Technological University.
Robofest is an international autonomous robotics competition organized by Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in Michigan, USA. Founded in 1999, it challenges student teams to design, build, and program fully autonomous robots to complete missions in various formats such as games, exhibitions, vision-based challenges, unknown problems, and more. Robots can be built with any programmable controller and materials, giving teams freedom to innovate. Robofest is open to students from 4th through 12th grade in a range of divisions, including a specific Senior Division aimed at high school students. Teams typically consist of two to five students working under an adult coach. Events are hosted at local, regional, and world championship levels, and many sites offer both in-person and online options. Participants develop skills in programming, engineering design, problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and project presentation, often gaining experience that supports future study and careers in STEM fields. While Robofest has modest registration fees for many events, local sponsors or schools sometimes help offset costs. Students from numerous countries participate, and teams can often join through local qualifying events or special online categories, making it accessible to schools, clubs, and independent teams worldwide.
