YYGS vs Harvard Pre-College: Which Program Is Right for You?
Two-week Ivy League summers for current sophomores and juniors, built differently: YYGS is an interdisciplinary program of lectures, seminars and a group capstone in one of three tracks, while Harvard's Pre-College Program has you take one college-level course for two weeks. Choose by whether you want breadth across a theme or depth in one subject, and check the application calendars, which barely overlap.

YYGS vs Harvard Pre-College: the short answer
Both are two-week residential summers on an Ivy League campus for students finishing sophomore or junior year, and neither gives letter grades or college credit. The shape differs. YYGS puts you in one of three interdisciplinary tracks built from lectures, seminars and a group capstone project; Harvard's Pre-College Program has you take one course, chosen from nearly 30 each session, with three hours of class a day plus homework. The money differs more. YYGS lists $7,500 for a session and offers need-based aid up to full tuition to students from any country — in 2026 it met 99% of admitted aid applicants' requests in full. Harvard lists $6,250 plus a $75 application fee, with a limited number of partial scholarships for U.S. citizens, permanent residents and DACA recipients only. And the calendars barely overlap: YYGS's Early Action deadline is October 15, 2026, before Harvard's application opens on December 1.

What this comparison cannot tell you
- Harvard's program page lists $6,250 as the 2027 cost in one place and as the total for a 2026 session in another; its cost-and-aid page says 2027, and we quote that page.
- Neither program publishes an acceptance rate on the pages we read.
- Neither page tells you what your family will actually pay: YYGS does not cover travel, and Harvard says a typical award covers only a portion of tuition.
- Neither is an admissions route: YYGS says it is not a feeder program for Yale, and Harvard says attending does not guarantee admission to Harvard.
