What Is Alaska Geographic Teen Expeditions?

Alaska Geographic, the nonprofit partner to Alaska's federal land agencies, runs summer expeditions for teens in partnership with the National Park Service, the Forest Service and other public land agencies. Most trips pair conservation projects in the morning with exploration in the afternoon and an evening program, and most are camping-based. The 2026 offerings included canoeing in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, a week in Denali National Park and Preserve, backpacking in Kobuk Valley National Park and the Pinnell Mountain National Recreation Trail.

Teens living in Alaska; 2026 trips were for ages 13-15, 14-18 or 15-18 depending on the trip. Out-of-state students may qualify under the ANILCA local hire exception. Applicants apply for one trip and can ask to be considered for others. The 2027 course offerings will be posted in January, and applications open in February 2027.
