What Is Nevada Poetry Out Loud?

Nevada Poetry Out Loud is the Nevada Arts Council's edition of the national Poetry Out Loud program, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. It offers free educational materials and a recitation competition that builds public speaking skills, self-confidence and knowledge of literary history. The program uses a pyramid structure: classroom winners advance to a school-wide competition, then to district and state competitions, and ultimately to the National Finals in Washington, D.C. The 21st annual state competition was held March 7, 2026 at the Joe Crowley Student Union theater on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, with participants from six counties.

Nevada students in grades 9-12, from in-school or after-school programs as well as home school and distance learning programs. Arts learning specialists in northern and southern Nevada coordinate the program; 2026-27 dates are not yet posted.
