# AFS Intercultural Programs AFS (formerly American Field Service) is one of the world's premier international exchange organizations, sending and hosting high school students in 50+ countries since 1947. Students live with host families and attend local schools while developing intercultural competence. ## What You'll Do - Live with a carefully selected host family in your chosen country - Attend a local high school and integrate into the community - Develop fluency in a new language through daily immersion - Participate in cultural activities, community service, and orientation programs ## Who Should Apply Students ages 15-18 who are curious, adaptable, and eager to step outside their comfort zone. Programs range from summer (6-8 weeks) to full academic year. Need-based scholarships available. ## Outcomes - Fluency or near-fluency in a second language - Deep intercultural understanding and global perspective - Independence, adaptability, and resilience - Lifelong international friendships and AFS alumni network (500,000+ worldwide)
