What Is Destination Imagination Challenge Experience?
Destination Imagination offers Team Numbers for its 2026-27 season; registration and qualifying stages vary by Affiliate. Teams of 2-7 students choose one competitive challenge—Technical, Scientific, Engineering, Fine Arts, Improvisational, or Service Learning—then create an original solution over several months. At a tournament they present that solution and solve a confidential Instant Challenge. Secondary Level is grades 9-12; a mixed-age team competes at the level of its oldest member.
The learning model is intentionally student-owned. An adult Team Manager organizes, safeguards, and supports the process but may not design or solve the team's work. The current challenges combine engineering and building, applied-science research, scriptwriting and performance, improvisation, project planning, community service, and rapid collaborative problem solving. Teams typically form August-January, work for two to six months, and attend Affiliate tournaments February-April. Strong teams may be invited to Global Finals, May 20-23, 2027 in Kansas City.
