European Union Contest for Young Scientists
Organization: European Commission
Program Overview
Prestigious EU-wide science competition showcasing outstanding research by young scientists aged 14–20 from across Europe.
The **European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS)** is a prestigious science competition organised by the European Commission to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics among young people. It brings together the best science projects from national competitions across Europe and partner countries, covering fields such as natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, social sciences, and more. EUCYS is open to young scientists aged **14 to 20** who have already won or been selected through an approved **national or regional young scientists competition**. Projects are typically individual or small-team research efforts that demonstrate creativity, scientific rigor, and original thinking. Finalists are invited to present their work at an in-person EUCYS event hosted each year in a different European city. Participants benefit from international recognition, feedback from expert judges, networking with peers and researchers from across Europe and beyond, and the chance to win prizes such as scholarships, scientific visits, and special awards. While you cannot usually apply directly to EUCYS, motivated high school students can aim to qualify by entering their country’s designated feeder competitions.
