What Is MITES Saturdays?
MITES Saturdays is a local, highly committed school-year program—not a nationwide MIT summer program. New applicants must be in grades 7-10, attend a public school in Boston, Cambridge, or Lawrence, Massachusetts, and be a U.S. citizen or current permanent resident. Admitted scholars may return through grade 12. They attend MIT in person for eight Saturdays each fall and eight each spring, 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., completing an Academic Mentoring Seminar and a changing project course such as robotics, biological engineering, civil engineering, computer science, or design.
MITES covers instruction, activities, and lunch. Students ordinarily pay their own transportation, while Lawrence Public Schools provides Lawrence transportation. The program provides neither formal grades nor academic credit, but instructors issue qualitative evaluations. The 2027 student application portal is open. Student applications close December 3, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.; the portal does not publish a cutoff timezone. Recommendations and applicant confirmation are separate December 10 requirements.
