In Florida the sanctioned contest is run by the Florida Division of Arts and Culture, part of the Florida Department of State. Teachers use the Poetry Out Loud 2026-2027 Teacher's Guide to prepare school-wide recitation competitions, and each school's winner is invited to compete at the in-person State Finals with a chaperone.

Florida high school students whose school takes part. The program includes public, private, parochial and home-schooled students. Schools register their participation by December 11, 2026, and register their state finalist by January 22, 2027; the State Competition is in February or March 2027 (date and location to be announced).
