Kiva U

What Is Kiva U?

Kiva U is Kiva's education initiative, providing free lessons, school guides, club toolkits and access to the Kiva lending platform. It is not a selective grades 9-12 program with a national cohort, application, deadline or required number of service hours. Students and educators decide whether to use it in a class, club or community group and set their own schedule and goals.

A group may learn about microfinance and financial inclusion, research borrowers, create a Kiva U lending team, promote its work and optionally use funds to support loans. Because the actual lending portion of Kiva is intended for adults, youth participation should be supervised. Kiva specifically recommends parent or guardian knowledge and account monitoring for children under 13.
