What Is National High School Journal of Science?
The National High School Journal of Science is an online journal that accepts high-school student manuscripts throughout the year. Eligible work includes original research articles and substantive literature reviews across science and related fields. This is a publication pathway, not a summer program, contest, guaranteed mentorship placement, or automatic credential. Authors first request a submission form by email and must follow detailed blind-review, citation, file, structure, figure, ethics, and supporting-material rules.
Manuscripts may not exceed 20 single-spaced pages at 12-point type, including figures and tables. A 200-250-word abstract and sections for title, authors and affiliations, introduction, methods, results, discussion, acknowledgments, and references are required. Word authors submit at least two versions; LaTeX authors submit at least three derived files. One version must remove identifying information for review, while another uses NHSJS's unusual online full-citation format. Research articles require at least five figures or tables; literature reviews allow no more than four and must synthesize significant developments rather than merely summarize sources.
