What Is National History Bee - Varsity & Junior?
International Academic Competitions' History Bee is an individual buzzer competition covering world history across eras and regions. Varsity is for grades 11-12; Junior Varsity is for grade 10 and younger, and younger students may play JV in addition to IAC's separate middle/elementary competitions. High-school students do not need a qualifying exam before entering a regional.
In the completed 2025-26 season, online and in-person regionals ran from late October through early April. Each used three preliminary matches and a final, with paragraph-length questions that decline in value as more clues are read. Students could play up to seven regionals across the available sets, and the top 50% of each age division at a regional qualified for Nationals. The published regional entry was $50, or $20 less when also playing the in-person History Bowl at the same event.
