What Is NSA Stokes Educational Scholarship Program?
Stokes is a selective National Security Agency scholarship, employment and service pathway for U.S. citizens applying as high-school seniors. NSA says the summer 2027 application period will begin September 1, 2026, but it has not yet posted a closing date or specific job announcement. Applicants must be able to obtain a security clearance, meet a minimum SAT score of 1200 or ACT score of 25, and plan a degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, computer/electrical engineering, cybersecurity, data science, mathematics or Chinese language analysis. NSA lists a 3.0+ GPA as preferred for STEM applicants.
Scholars receive up to $30,000 per academic year for tuition and mandatory fees plus a year-round federal salary while in college. They complete paid NSA work over multiple summers and may receive housing and travel support for summer work when their school is at least 75 miles from headquarters. Health and life insurance, paid leave and federal retirement benefits are included under appointment terms. After graduation, NSA places the scholar in a position in the funded field.
