What Is RISD Project Open Door: Saturday Portfolio?
Saturday Portfolio is Project Open Door's sustained, free art-and-design program for eligible local high-school teens. Professional teaching artists lead sessions on RISD's Providence campus every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the school year. Students develop creative practice and a portfolio while gaining access to RISD learning resources and a community of peers, artists, and mentors.
The current 2026-27 application is open. The program is for teens who either attend a public or public-charter school in Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, or Woonsocket, or live in one of those cities while attending a public Rhode Island high school. Applicants need a strong interest in art, motivation to learn, and the ability to commit to weekly participation. The selection process includes an online application, an interview, and sharing artwork; the page publishes no application deadline or guaranteed acceptance criteria.
