What Is Nashville Symphony Accelerando?
Accelerando is the Nashville Symphony's free, year-round, multi-year training initiative for gifted orchestral musicians from communities underrepresented in American orchestras. Students in grades 5-12 receive individual instrumental instruction, theory and history at Vanderbilt Blair, masterclasses, workshops, chamber and solo performance, Symphony tickets, summer-program funding, and college/conservatory application counseling and logistics help. The current list accepts strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and harp; it does not accept piano, saxophone, guitar, or voice.
Auditions are accepted year-round through an application, at least one teacher/instructor/director recommendation, and an instrument- and grade-specific video. The page says 2026-27 applications were considered through July 1, 2026, which has passed, while the general application remains available. Applicants submitting now should confirm whether they are being considered for a later cohort. The live page now says grades 5-12, correcting the old grade 5-10 limit.
