What Is United States Senate Youth Program?
The United States Senate Youth Program selects 104 high-school leaders—two from each state, the District of Columbia, and Department of Defense Education Activity schools—for an intensive week in Washington, D.C. The 65th Washington Week is scheduled for March 6-13, 2027. Delegates meet national leaders and study the legislative, executive, and judicial branches through policy addresses, question-and-answer sessions, government-site visits, and the annual Senate reception.
The Hearst Foundations pays round-trip transportation to Washington, hotel, and meals and awards each delegate a $12,500 undergraduate college scholarship. Families remain responsible for getting the student to the nearest commercial airport or train station. Full-week attendance and compliance with program rules are required to keep the scholarship.
