What Is Minnesota House of Representatives?

This nonpartisan program gives Minnesota high-school juniors one fully supervised week inside the state legislative process. Participants page in the House chamber, assist during proceedings, prepare for and conduct a mock committee meeting, meet their own representative, and engage with legislative leaders, constitutional officers, judges, lobbyists, media, legislators, and staff. Current daytime hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, plus scheduled evening activities. Participants stay together at the designated Saint Paul hotel with assigned chaperones; the Capitol Complex has 24-hour professional security.

The 2027 program offers twelve weeks from January 25 through May 14. It is open to all Minnesota juniors in public, private, or home school. A complete application, 500-word interest essay, and one teacher, counselor, or academic-advisor recommendation must reach the Sergeant at Arms Office by end of business November 10, 2026. Selection considers application quality, geographic distribution, weekly availability, and representation of Minnesota's diversity. The House covers the hotel and provides a small meal stipend; students pay other personal and incidental costs.
