What Is Genesis at Brandeis?
Genesis is Brandeis University's current three-week residential precollege program centered on academically rigorous, pluralistic Jewish learning, identity, community, spiritual practice, creative exploration, social action, and Shabbat. Brandeis also permits qualified high-school students to take selected Summer School courses, but those are a separate college-course pathway with their own eligibility, credit, format, and pricing.
Genesis welcomes academically curious Jewish high-school students ages 15-18 of all genders and identities, from varied religious, cultural, racial, socioeconomic, and national backgrounds. No synagogue movement or prior Jewish-text experience is required, but applicants should want an immersive pluralistic Jewish learning and living community. Students live in secured, air-conditioned campus dormitories with residential staff, eat in Brandeis dining halls with kosher and dietary options, study two hours per weekday, complete reading, writing, research, and a capstone, join afternoon explorations and daily reflection, help lead Shabbat, attend evening community programs, and take Sunday trips.
