# Pre-Law and Mock Trial Summer Academy Rutgers University's Pre-College Summer Academies include a dedicated pre-law track built around mock trial. The academy runs as two separate one-week residential sessions at Rutgers-New Brunswick: Week I works a civil case and Week II works a criminal case, so students can take either or both. ## What You'll Do - Live on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus for a full residential week - Learn courtroom roles: attorney opening and closing, direct and cross examination, witness preparation - Study the rules of evidence and objections as they apply to your assigned case file - Work a civil case (Week I) or a criminal case (Week II) from file review to trial - Argue the case in a culminating mock trial ## Who Should Apply Students completing their sophomore or junior year who will be 16 to 18 years old by the summer of the program. No prior mock trial experience is required, but the academy is residential and fills quickly - both weeks reached capacity for the most recent summer, with a waitlist. Applications typically open in early January. ## Outcomes The non-credit academy fee is $2,899 for both in-state and out-of-state students, including residence hall accommodation for the week.
