What Is Civil Air Patrol Cadet Programs?
Civil Air Patrol cadets join a local squadron for aerospace education, leadership and service activities. Families contact the unit, visit with a parent and attend at least three weekly meetings before completing the membership process. Annual dues vary by state, and membership becomes active after commander approval and identity verification. Only new US-citizen cadets use the online route; former cadets and applicants needing a citizenship waiver have separate procedures. Check the squadron's eligibility, meeting schedule, uniform and activity costs rather than assuming a fixed weekly commitment or guaranteed flight placement. CAP guidance describes ages 12 through 18, with a school-squadron exception, lawful-residence or waiver rules and activity-specific requirements. FY2026 annual dues were USD 25–50 by U.S. wing through September 30, 2026; they do not establish FY2027 dues. Local dues, uniforms and activities can add costs.
