What Is Gilder Lehrman Student Advisory Council?
The Student Advisory Council is a selective virtual community of more than 200 high-achieving students in grades 8-12 from the United States and other countries. During the school year, members meet on the second Saturday of each month at 1 p.m. Eastern. They advise the Gilder Lehrman Institute on student programs and resources, examine a significant American-history document with a Collection curator, and hear from historians, guest speakers, and fellow council members.
Members may also speak at Gilder Lehrman book-prize ceremonies, Board of Trustees meetings, the annual gala, or other special events. Some students remain involved for multiple years or continue relationships with the Institute after high school. The program does not publish a participation fee, stipend, service-hour award, or guaranteed internship.
