# Explore Engineering Innovation (Online) Explore Engineering Innovation (EEI) is the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering's signature pre-college summer course, and its online section delivers the full experience remotely. In summer 2026 the online cohort runs June 24 - July 26. Students complete hands-on engineering labs at home using shipped lab kits, tackle college-level problem sets, and work in virtual teams, earning three Johns Hopkins University credits for successful completion. ## What You'll Do - Rotate through core disciplines including civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering plus materials science - Build and test lab projects at home with a provided kit (lab kit fee approximately $235-$300 in addition to tuition) - Solve engineering problems using spreadsheet modeling, estimation, and trigonometry - Collaborate with classmates and instructors in live virtual sessions - Compete in the culminating spaghetti-bridge design challenge ## Who Should Apply EEI is aimed at high school students with strong math and science records: applicants should have completed Algebra II with trigonometry and a lab-based year of chemistry and/or physics. Typical admits are rising juniors and seniors; talented rising sophomores may be considered, and graduated seniors can attend the summer before college. ## Outcomes Students earn an official JHU transcript with three college credits, a grounded sense of whether engineering fits, and experience with the quantitative habits engineers use daily. Tuition for the online section is $3,575; applications open in late fall with an Early Action deadline in January and rolling review afterward until sections fill.
