Jugend forscht Science Competition Germany
Organization: Stiftung Jugend forscht e.V.
Program Overview
Germany’s leading youth science and engineering research competition for students up to age 21.
Jugend forscht is Germany’s largest youth science and engineering competition, aimed at encouraging young people to pursue independent research projects in STEM fields. Participants work on self-chosen projects in areas such as mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, technology, and geo- and space sciences, and then present their work in a structured, multi-level competition. The competition is open to young people up to 21 years old; the main **Jugend forscht** stream typically targets students in upper secondary school, while a related track, **Schüler experimentieren**, is aimed at younger students. Participants advance through regional, state (Landes), and national rounds, gaining experience in scientific inquiry, project management, and presenting to expert juries. The program is free to enter and offers mentoring opportunities, networking with scientists and industry partners, and prizes including research stays, scholarships, and special awards.
