What Is Student Historian Internship Program?
Student Historians is an in-person school-year internship at The New York Historical for students entering grades 10–12 in Fall 2026. Interns use museum and library primary sources to study the Reconstruction era through the exhibition Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass' America, then turn research into public digital-history resources using exhibition and mapping platforms, audio tools, and other media. The 2026–27 cohort meets at the museum every Wednesday from 4:30–7:00 p.m., October 28, 2026 through June 16, 2027, excluding NYC public-school recesses. Applicants must be eligible for U.S. employment and have or obtain working papers. The live application is due August 23, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET; selected applicants attend group interviews in late September, with final selections by October 6. The application requires contact and academic information, a reference, short responses, four 150–200 word responses, and attendance confirmation. A current NYC school bulletin linking the official application states that completion earns a USD 1,200 stipend.
