What Is Sandia National Laboratories High School?
Sandia hires a limited number of high-school students into paid temporary jobs spanning R&D, technical, business, clerical, and—in New Mexico only—laborer classifications. These are real jobs: interns complete position-specific assignments, record hours, work with a manager, and are paid hourly by National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia (NTESS). Openings are not one fixed summer program; managers may post roles throughout the year, internships are primarily offered in summer, and commuting students can sometimes hold year-round appointments.
Applicants must be at least 16 and enrolled full time at an accredited high school. The minimum GPA is 3.0 for R&D, technical, and business roles and 2.5 for clerical or laborer roles. U.S. citizenship is required only when a security clearance or a posting requires it. Every hire must pass Sandia's pre-employment background review and drug screening, and every posting may add skills, location, schedule, citizenship, or clearance conditions. Apply separately to each role in Sandia's Careers system; there is no universal cohort application or single annual deadline.
