What Is NJCL Online Exams?
NJCL sponsors four separate proctored online tests administered by the American Classical League through Lingco: the National Classical Etymology Exam (NCEE), National Roman Civilization Exam (NRCE), National Latin Vocabulary Exam (NLVE), and National Hellenic Civilization Exam (NHCE). NCEE, NRCE, and NHCE are 50 questions in 45 minutes and are intended for grades 6-12 while permitting other grades. NLVE is 70 questions in 45 minutes and uses different tests for Latin one-half through level 5-plus.
Registration is handled by an adult school, chapter, homeschool, or organization sponsor—not by a student acting alone. In 2025-26, each exam seat cost USD 7, or USD 6 for ACL members, plus a per-exam sponsor fee of USD 25, USD 20 for ACL members, or USD 15 for NJCL chapter sponsors. The public schedule still says 2025-26; no 2026-27 dates are published. Do not silently roll those windows forward.
