What Is North Carolina Science Festival?
The North Carolina Science Festival is a month-long public celebration coordinated by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at UNC-Chapel Hill. Museums, universities, libraries, parks, schools, nonprofits, businesses and community groups independently host hands-on activities, talks, lab tours, nature programs, expos, exhibits, performances and stargazing across the state. The latest completed 2026 festival ran April 1-30 and listed more than 500 events for all ages.
This is not a selective high-school extracurricular or one application. Children, teens, families, adults, educators, STEM professionals and volunteers can use the event directory. Each host controls audience, admission, capacity, registration, supervision, age limits, accommodations, volunteer duties and service-hour documentation. Some events are free and drop-in; others charge admission, require parking fees or advance registration.
