What Is PrepareRI High School Internship Program?
PrepareRI is a statewide paid summer internship program operated by Skills for Rhode Island's Future. The completed 2026 experience combined a 40-hour paid work-readiness bootcamp from June 22-26 with at least 150 hours of employer work over six weeks from July 6-August 14. SkillsRI matched interns to placements based on qualifications, fit, preparedness, and skill across a network of more than 200 employer partners. Interns earned $17 per hour, could work up to 280 hours, and could earn up to the program's published approximate cap of $4,700. Participation was free to students and schools.
The 2026 applicant had to be a current Rhode Island high-school junior, live in Rhode Island, attend a public or public-charter high school or an eligible homeschool with an identified local LEA, be at least 16 by March 30, have parent/guardian consent, and be eligible to work in the United States. Applicants completed the online application and interviews with SkillsRI and/or employers and needed summer schedule flexibility. There were no academic or attendance thresholds for basic eligibility, but eligibility did not guarantee selection or an employer match.
