What Is Rutgers Youth Enjoy Science (RUYES)?

Rutgers Youth Enjoy Science (RUYES) is a Rutgers Cancer Institute program, launched in 2020 and funded by the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, that encourages young people to pursue cancer research and health careers. High school participants train in cutting-edge cancer research in mentor-supervised laboratories over two consecutive summers.

Rising high school juniors and seniors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, will turn 16 by June 15, attend school in the tri-state area (NJ, NY, PA or CT) and can commute to the Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Brunswick. Applicants commit to two full years. For summer 2026 the application portal opened November 4, and applicants chosen for interviews were notified by the third week of March.
