What Is St. Jude High School Research Immersion?
HSRI is an eight-week, full-time, in-person summer research internship for current high-school juniors from the Memphis-Shelby County area and immediately surrounding counties in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Students work in pairs with a St. Jude research mentor in laboratory, psychology, epidemiology, clinical, or data-science settings, develop professional and research skills, create a scientific poster, and present at a community exhibition. Interns work 40 hours per week during a typical 9 a.m.-5 p.m. day and receive a $4,800 stipend.
The 2027 application and all materials, including the completed teacher recommendation, are due December 4, 2026. No closing clock or timezone is published. The research programme begins June 1, 2027, and the community poster exhibition is July 24; these are programme events, not later application cutoffs. Current high-school juniors in Memphis/Shelby and immediately surrounding counties in Tennessee, Mississippi or Arkansas must meet the published age 16+, GPA 3.0 and citizenship/residency requirements.
