# Skipping Stones Youth Honor Awards The Youth Honor Awards are the annual writing and art awards of Skipping Stones, a nonprofit multicultural children's magazine. Young people ages 7 to 18 submit original writing - essays, interviews, poems, plays, and short stories - and/or art such as photos, paintings, and cartoons on themes including multicultural awareness, nature and ecology, diversity, family traditions, international experiences, and peace and justice. Ten winners, plus noteworthy entries, are published in the autumn. ## What You'll Do - Write prose up to 1,000 words or poetry up to 30 lines, or create photos, paintings, or cartoons on the award themes - Submit your entry by mail or email with the $6 entry fee (waived for low-income entrants) - Compete for one of ten annual Youth Honor Awards judged across age groups - See winning work published by Skipping Stones each autumn ## Who Should Apply Any young person ages 7-18 worldwide - middle schoolers are at the heart of the award's range. The 2026 awards required entries postmarked or emailed by May 5, 2026; the awards run annually, so aim for the next early-May deadline and watch the official page for the new cycle. ## Outcomes Winners receive an honor certificate, back issues of Skipping Stones, and five multicultural and nature books - and, most importantly, a genuine publication credit in a long-running magazine that values young voices on culture, ecology, and justice.
