What Is River of Words Environmental Poetry and Art?
River of Words is a free international poetry and art contest for enrolled young people ages five to nineteen who are not in college. Entries explore nature, place and local watersheds. Students may submit up to five poems and five artworks; adults submit for entrants under eighteen.
Poetry is uploaded, while all artwork must be physically mailed with the entry confirmation and will not be returned. The rules grant River of Words broad rights and prohibit submitting the same work to other publications or competitions. Original work is required and AI-generated entries are ineligible. The 2026 competition is complete; a 2027 intake has not been announced.
