What Is South Carolina Governor's School for Science?
SCGSSM's residential program is a two-year public high school, not a short extracurricular, summer camp or optional after-school program. South Carolina students apply while in tenth grade, move to the Hartsville campus for eleventh and twelfth grades, and complete a full advanced curriculum spanning STEM, research, humanities and social sciences. Graduates who satisfy all rules can earn both the South Carolina high-school diploma and a GSSM diploma.
For the next published cycle, the application opens September 15, 2026 and the priority deadline is February 15, 2027. GSSM says later applications may be reviewed on a rolling, space-available basis.
