What Is Udall Undergraduate Scholarship?
The Udall Scholarship is a federal undergraduate award—not a high-school scholarship. Eligible college sophomores and juniors pursue leadership and public service in one of three areas: environment; Tribal public policy for qualifying Native American or Alaska Native students; or Native health care for qualifying Native American or Alaska Native students. Applicants enter through their college's Udall faculty representative and an internal nomination process, then submit extensive essays, academic records, and three recommendations.
For 2027, up to 65 scholarships of $7,500 are anticipated. The application became available October 9, 2026. Faculty representatives register students by March 3, 2027 and submit applications by March 4, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. Institutional nomination deadlines can be up to six months earlier, so applicants must contact their faculty representative. An application, nomination or meeting eligibility does not guarantee an award.
