What Is USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO)?
The USAMO is an invite-only national proof-based mathematics competition administered by the Mathematical Association of America. Students cannot apply directly. The pathway begins when a school or other approved competition site enrolls a student in the AMC 10 or AMC 12. Exceptional AMC performance earns an AIME invitation, and a combined AMC/AIME qualification process determines USAMO or USAJMO invitations. If a student qualifies for both, MAA invites the student to USAMO.
USAMO is invitation-only through qualifying mathematical competition routes, not a direct national student application. Students register through their own AMC school or testing site; its local signup deadline may be earlier. October 15 and 28 manager order dates are upstream institutional gates, not USAMO student cutoffs. The current olympiad calendar is separate from any invitation/registration requirements.
