What Is Washington State Legislature Page Program?
Washington students age 14 through 16 may apply to serve for one week in the House or Senate during the state legislative session. Legislator-sponsored pages distribute materials, deliver messages, assist offices, work on the chamber floor, carry opening flags, and spend two hours each day in Page School studying the three branches, lawmaking, and civil discourse. The education capstone is a mock committee hearing in an actual legislative hearing room. Participants receive 20 community-service hours and, with a Social Security card supplied through the secure process, $65 per day in the House or $67 per day in the Senate.
The 2026 cycle is closed. Applications for the January-April 2027 long session will open November 1, 2026 and are reviewed for limited weekly placements; the final relative cutoff is five weeks before session ends. Parent permission, teacher and principal recommendations, and sponsorship by a Washington legislator are required, and prior House or Senate pages cannot participate again. Families arrange commuting or optional host-family housing, typically $200-$250 for five days including breakfast, dinner, and Capitol transportation. Need-based scholarship help can offset travel and lodging.
