What Is Yale Young African Scholars?
Yale Young African Scholars offers college-preparation and leadership programs for eligible secondary-school students attending school in Africa. In 2027, applicants may attend one of two experiences: the online College Prep Workshop on July 15–20, or the residential Leadership Summit in Rwanda on August 7–15.
In the historical 2026 cycle, applicants had to be current grade 10 or 11 students, age 14-18, attending school in Africa, and citizens or permanent residents of an African country or refugees living in an African country. The residential program covered tuition, housing, meals and materials, but students generally remained responsible for travel documents and transportation unless they received limited need-based travel assistance.
