What Is Zoo Atlanta Volunteen Program?
Volunteen is a year-round, in-person volunteer program for students who will be enrolled in high school and are ages 14–17 by June 1. The program runs June 1 through the following May 31 and requires at least 160 service hours: 100 during June–August, 30 during September–December and 30 during January–May. It is a substantial service commitment, not a one-week camp, paid internship or occasional volunteer option.
Volunteens support Zoo Atlanta's conservation-education mission, engage with guests, build knowledge of animal species and care, and practice advocacy, empathy, leadership and customer service. Exact assignments depend on training, age, performance, program needs and available shifts. The program does not promise direct animal handling, veterinary experience, paid work, a job shadow, a recommendation or a college-admission outcome.
